Thesis Title: Monitoring New Intramammary Infections in Dairy Cows
Description of Project: The project is part of the Canadian Bovine Mastitis Research Network (CBMRN) and is focused on new intramammary infections (NIMI) during lactation. A major component of the project is the development of a standard definition of a NIMI. Once a definition has been established, incidence rates of NIMI can be determined for all herds enrolled in the National Cohort of Dairy Farms. The ultimate goal is to develop practical methods of monitoring NIMI on cow and herd level, using easily accessible data such as Dairy Herd Improvement (DHI) records and farm pathogen profiles.
